I've built companies myself. I work in venture capital now, which puts me in front of a lot of early-stage companies across the region.
Montana's early-stage pipeline is thin on both sides. Not enough companies getting started, and not enough local capital that knows what it's looking at when they do. Those problems feed each other — founders who can't find early money here raise elsewhere, or don't start at all.
The mechanics matter — how a term sheet reads, what a cap table tells you, how dilution works, the specific ways angels lose money. But the mechanics are the easy part. What the valley actually lacks is a room that convenes on a regular basis, where the same people keep showing up and building a shared sense of what a good company looks like.
That's what makes capital move. The point isn't a class. It's a standing table for people who want to put money to work in Montana and the Mountain West, and want to get good at it together.
